From a worn parquet to a completely renewed floor: before and after

A worn parquet floor does not always need to be replaced. In this project we show how a herringbone wooden floor can recover its look through a professional restoration process.

Herringbone parquet restored by DEMADERA

Over the years, wooden floors are exposed to daily use, knocks, scuffs, stains and wear. In some cases the finish loses its original look and the parquet can show areas that are far more damaged than others.

However, an old or worn parquet does not necessarily have to be replaced. Depending on its condition and characteristics, a professional restoration can bring back much of its original appearance.

In this project we show the before and after of the restoration of a herringbone parquet, from the initial state of the floor to the final result.

Before: a parquet with visible wear and marks

In the first phase of the project, the floor showed numerous marks, darkened areas and differences in appearance between different parts of the parquet.

Continuous use had left its mark on the wood, giving the floor an uneven look, quite far from its original finish.

The sanding process

The aim is to progressively remove the damaged finish and the surface marks, preparing the wood so that a uniform finish can be achieved afterwards.

In this case, the process made it possible to work on the areas with the most wear and gradually recover the appearance of the wood.

Sanding must be carried out in a controlled way to achieve a homogeneous result and to respect the parquet itself.

After: a far more uniform surface

After the restoration process, the change is obvious.

The wood recovers a much cleaner, more uniform appearance, and the characteristic herringbone pattern stands out again.

The result makes it possible to keep a floor that is part of the home and give it a new life without replacing it completely.

Is it worth restoring an old parquet?

In many cases, yes.

Before replacing a wooden floor, it is worth assessing its condition. If the wood is still in adequate condition and the damage is mainly on the surface, parquet restoration can be an interesting alternative.

As well as recovering the look of the floor, restoring a parquet makes it possible to preserve original elements of the home and avoid a full replacement when it is not necessary.

The viability of the work will always depend on the type of parquet, its thickness, the condition of the wood and the level of damage.

Parquet restoration in Garraf, Barcelona and Tarragona

At DEMADERA we carry out carpentry and wood restoration work adapted to the characteristics of each project.

If you have a worn parquet in a home in the Garraf county, Barcelona or Tarragona, we can assess its condition and study the restoration possibilities.

We carry out projects in towns such as Sitges, Vilanova i la Geltrú, Sant Pere de Ribes and Cubelles, always depending on the location and the characteristics of the work.

Has your parquet lost its original look?

Before thinking about replacing it, it is worth checking whether it can be recovered.

A well-restored wooden floor can completely change the look of a room and bring back the prominence of a material that has gradually lost its finish over time.
